Our client seeks a strong backend-focused engineer to own the architecture of backend services, APIs, and cloud infrastructure while contributing across the stack. You'll act as Tech Lead—mentoring developers, setting technical standards, and making key design decisions—while staying hands-on with code every day.

This role combines technical leadership with direct engineering impact, where your work enables actual medical products that improve patients' lives. You'll collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and R&D engineers in an international team that values flat hierarchies and continuous learning.

What you will do as a Senior Backend Engineer...

• Technology Leadership: Drive architecture decisions, perform code reviews, and set engineering standards for the team

• Backend Development: Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs at scale

• End-to-End Collaboration: Work with frontend engineers to architect complete web applications

• Cloud Ownership: Own cloud deployment, monitoring, and operational reliability of services

• Quality Standards: Ensure code quality, testing, documentation, and DevOps best practices across the team

• Product Shaping: Participate in cross-functional discussions with product managers and R&D engineers to shape the product roadmap

What we are looking for…

• Backend Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in backend or fullstack web application development

• Python Proficiency: Strong skills in Python, ideally with FastAPI experience; other backend languages (Java, Node.js, C#, Go) also valued

• API Design: Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs at scale

• Database Skills: Solid understanding of relational databases and data modeling (e.g., PostgreSQL)

• Cloud Platforms: Professional experience managing AWS, GCP, or Azure with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)

• CI/CD & Containers: Experience with containerization and CI/CD workflows (Docker, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)

• Communication: Strong communication skills and ability to work in distributed, remote team environments

Desirable (but not required):

• Ability to lead or mentor a small engineering team

• Experience with Kubernetes or managed container platforms

• Experience with identity providers and authentication workflows (Keycloak, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML)

• Experience with WebSockets or real-time communication patterns

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Sentry)

• Knowledge of frontend technologies (React, TypeScript)

• Experience operating production systems or participating in on-call rotations
