Our client seeks an engaged forestry professional to operate across Latvia and Lithuania, supporting forest-related activities and projects in close cooperation with local stakeholders from the forestry sector, public institutions, private enterprises, and NGOs. You'll contribute to growing certified forest areas while providing technical guidance and stakeholder engagement.
This role combines technical forestry expertise with stakeholder management and strategic development, where you'll maintain certification pipelines, engage with forest managers and government bodies, and support the implementation of international standards across the Baltic region.
What you will do as a Forestry Officer
Forest Management Strategy: Support development and implementation of forest management strategy for Latvia and Lithuania
Certification Pipeline: Maintain pipeline of certification opportunities across state forests, private enterprises, and smallholder associations
Impact Assessment: Support assessment and communication of certification impact on forest stewardship and supply chains
Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with forest managers, certification bodies, industry associations, trade unions, and government bodies for improved standards implementation
Representation: Represent and support organizing the client at relevant conferences, meetings, and industry events
Technical Guidance: Provide technical support to existing and potential certificate holders and certification bodies
Standards Development: Engage in development and revision of standards ensuring sub-regional stakeholders are informed and invited to participate
Promotion & Training: Roll out international tools including translation of materials, conducting webinars and trainings for Latvian and Lithuanian stakeholders
Data Management: Analyze and manage internal and external forest-related data for the Baltic region
Internal Coordination: Represent Latvia and Lithuania in relevant international forums, regional meetings, and community discussions
What we are looking for…
Education: University degree in silviculture, forestry, forest/supply chain management, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Professional Experience: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in forestry or related fields
Standards Knowledge: Sound understanding of FSC programs, policies, standards, and risk assessments and their impacts on the Baltic forest sector
Value Chain Understanding: Knowledge of forest products and services value chains, market forces, and industry dynamics
Service Orientation: Diligent, accurate working style with strong service-oriented attitude
Time Management: Ability to perform well while handling multiple functions simultaneously
Independence: Ability to work independently and achieve agreed objectives
Language Skills: Fluency in Latvian and/or Lithuanian (spoken and written); knowledge of both is advantageous. Fluency in English (spoken and written)
Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office with adaptability to new technological solutions
Communication: Exemplary verbal and written communication, active listening, and ability to facilitate interactive discussions
Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to diverse values and approaches across international stakeholders
